The D2 Visa is designed for entrepreneurs looking to establish and operate a business in Portugal. It grants residency for business purposes and enables applicants to apply for permanent residency or citizenship after residing in the country for five years. To qualify for the visa, applicants must either purchase or register a company in Portugal. They have three possible pathways: • Acquiring an existing Portuguese company or a stake in it; • Presenting a comprehensive business plan for a new venture; • Setting up a branch of their current foreign business in Portugal. No minimum investment is required, but proof of sufficient funds or an existing business is necessary. The visa is valid for four months, during which the holder must apply for a residence permit. Initial residency lasts two years, renewable for three-year periods. Family members (spouse, children, parents) can also obtain residency. To maintain status, stay 16 months in two years or 1.5 consecutive years in Portugal.

Portugal D7 Visa For passive income earners

The D7 visa enables financially self-sufficient individuals to relocate to Portugal and secure a residence permit. Applicants must demonstrate a consistent passive income from outside Portugal, sufficient to sustain themselves and any dependents. Eligible income sources include pensions, rental earnings, dividends, or intellectual property royalties, with a minimum requirement of €1,000 per month. Initially valid for four months, the D7 visa requires holders to enter Portugal and apply for a residence permit. To maintain residency, foreigners must reside in the country either continuously for 1.5 years or at least 16 months within a two-year period. The residence permit is granted for two years initially, renewable every three years thereafter. After five years of residency, holders may qualify for permanent residence or citizenship, provided they meet the stay requirements: either 2.5 consecutive years or 28 months within a three-year span.
